I recently discovered that a guest blogger I did not know had posted entries on one of my blogs several times for which they were paid for. I never saw a dime.
Watch out. This person got literally vitriolic with me when I suspected this sort of dishonesty. I don’t know their gender or real name but she went by a consistent female name on one of my blogs for some time. Her posts were good and picked up a lot of Google hits. Still, she used dishonest means, disguised as an “average Joe” trying to increase her freelance writing skills. In reality, she was making money by plaving links in her posts on my blog. That’s just wrong.
My advice is this: if you do not know the person, do not have them guest blog. If you must have them, check their link to see if it is a company as opposed to a person’s blog. If it is a company, they probably found you because of your page rank etc and not because “they are an admirer of your work” so much. They make money off your blood sweat and tears. They should be paying you to guest blog. When in doubt, say no … no matter how much they may stroke your ego. Keep your blog pure of junk urls like onlineschools.org etc.
Best of luck navigating these waters.
